Industry Exposure and Job Search Resources

The College’s Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) with its Engineering Careers, by 12twenty system enables students to post their resume on the web and respond to job postings placed on the ECRC website by corporations. The ECRC also provides a number of services to students as they begin their job search, including: resume and cover letter critiquing services, advice on interviewing and job searches, and by-appointment career counseling

Exposure to industry during internships and team projects provides EGL students with connections to potential employers. Faculty familiar with the EGL program often forward job descriptions to EGL students, providing an edge over their departmental peers.

EGL students in Tauber Institute have access to the Ross School of Business Office of Career Development (OCD). OCD offers mock interview sessions to students. Using both ECRC and OCD facilities allows students to see a wider range of companies, to present themselves as a unique applicant who has both engineering and business skills. EGL students often have the option to attend recognition dinners for corporate sponsors and learn about current events in business today. Tauber Institute is also one of the major participants in the National Manufacturing Recruiting Forum, a large job fair for companies looking to hiring students with an interest in manufacturing and operations. This event exposes students to a broad range of companies in a short period of time.

Job Placement

Employers recognize that EGL students are not typical Masters Degree graduates and that they do not fit into the traditional “engineering” job role. In response to this, some companies are creating new positions and job rotation programs specifically for EGLs to take advantage of their unique skills and talents.
