Honors Seminar

The Honors Seminar courses focus on a variety of topics, including community-building, leadership development, focus area-specific topics, showcase of opportunities available at the University of Michigan, peer mentoring, and developing an ePortfolio.

The Honors seminars are designed to help develop your education beyond technical knowledge by developing additional competencies of: 

Communication


Ability to critically read, listen, reflect, and convey information effectively in a variety of media with diverse audiences with different needs and perspectives across a variety of settings and contexts.

Global and Cultural Awareness


Ability to acknowledge, practice, and articulate one’s own cultural identity to better appreciate, adapt to, and interact with individuals from differing backgrounds, values, and cultures.

Empathy


Ability to feel, understand, appreciate, value, identify with the perspective of someone else by reasoning from their premises, assumptions, or ideas.

Leadership


Cultivating an environment that collectively develops a shared purpose and inspiring others to work toward it.

Ethics


 Fully engage stakeholders to recognize that actions and choices have consequences, and that one must act with integrity and trustworthiness.

Teamwork


Working to define and achieve a shared goal by leveraging individuals with different perspectives, roles, responsibilities, and aptitudes to overcome and use conflict to their advantage to create a more robust solution.

Course Information

Honors Seminars are 1 credit each, and must be taken in order. They are designed for you to take one each academic year, however, students applying after their sophomore year can take the courses their junior and senior year.

(ENGR 230 – 1 credit P/F)

Mondays 3:30-5:30pm or 5:30-7:30pm (Winter) & Mondays 5:30-7:30pm (Fall)

Meets every other week for full semester

second honors seminar

Honors Seminar 2

(ENGR 330 – 1 credit P/F)

Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm (Winter) &
Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm or 5:30-7:30pm (Fall)

Meets every other week for full semester

Has 7 week option in the Fall semester

third honors seminar

Honors Seminar 3

(ENGR 430 – 1 credit P/F)

Mondays 4:30-7:30pm or
Mondays 3:00-6:00pm & one Saturday 9:00am-6:00pm (Winter)
Mondays 4:30-7:30pm (Fall)

Meets five times throughout the full semester

Winter Saturday/Monday option meets three times
