About EGL
Leadership Experience
Students completing the EGL specialization of the Michigan Engineering Honors Program participate in a variety of leadership opportunities to develop their non-technical competencies, as well as prepare themselves for their capstone project. Students will complete Honors Seminars, Topics in Leadership, Tauber LeadershipAdvantageSM, and can continue their leadership development through opportunities offered by the EGL Honor Society.
Honors Seminar
The Honors Seminar courses focus on a variety of topics, including community-building, leadership development, focus area-specific topics, a showcase of opportunities available at the University of Michigan, peer mentoring, and developing an ePortfolio.
You can learn more about the Honors Seminar content, course load, and times offered here.
Topics in Leadership
The Topics in Leadership (TiL) series provides additional leadership and business development skills for EGL students. There are three levels of Topics in Leadership that students participate in.
- TiL 1: Students participate in TiL 1 during their first Winter semester in EGL. Sessions meet once per week for 6 to 8 weeks at the beginning of the term. Topics covered include resume-building, networking, public speaking, business fundamentals, and intercultural awareness.
- TiL 2: Designed for students in their second year of EGL, this series builds upon subjects covered in TiL 1, and continues to build the leadership and professional skills necessary to be successful in EGL.
- TiL 3: This is a two-part series to prepare students for next steps as they enter the workforce and join the EGL alumni community. Students in TiL 3 are encouraged to reach out and help teach a Topics in Leadership 1 or 2 class.
Tauber LeadershipAdvantageSM Series
The LeadershipAdvantageSM program is offered through the Tauber Institute for Global Operations. During senior year, students participate in this comprehensive set of leadership modules. For more details, visit the LeadershipAdvantageSM website.
