Business Acumen

Credit Hour Requirements
EGL (Engineering Global Leadership) students must complete 15 credit hours of coursework at the Ross School of Business. This includes a focus area in Business/Global Operations and elective courses in various business subjects such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Strategy.

Focus Area: Business/Global Operations
The 9-credit focus area is completed during the Bachelor’s degree program with the following courses:

  • MFG 501: Topics in Global Operations
    • 1.5 credits taken during Fall A semester of senior year
  • TO 605: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations
    • 3 credits taken during Fall B + Winter A, or the full Fall semester of senior year
  • BBA-level Business Electives
    • 4.5 credits of 300-level or above courses selected by the student

Master’s Degree Coursework
An additional 6 credits of business coursework are completed during the Master’s degree program:

  • MBA-level Business Elective
    • 6 credits selected by the student

Course Utilization and Advising
In some departments, business courses may count towards engineering degree requirements, such as technical electives. Please contant your undergraduate departmental advisor to determine if any business courses can be applied to your engineering degree.

Important Notes

  • Any course taught by the Ross School of Business may be counted toward the EGL business elective requirement, as long as it is 300-level or above.
  • Courses taken as optional pass/fail cannot be used towards the EGL business elective requirement.
