Dhillon-Randhawa Recipients

2024-25 EGL Dhillon-Randhawa Scholarship Award

We are pleased to announce that current EGL undergraduate student George Nunu is the recipient of the EGL Dhillon-Randhawa Scholarship Award for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Originally from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, George came to the University of Michigan in Fall 2021 to study Industrial & Operations Engineering. He was admitted to EGL in Winter 2023.

George’s focus in EGL has been on the cultural pillar. He went on his first Volunteer Abroad experience in 2023 to Iceland, and was hooked! After having such an impactful experience, George ran for VA Choir in 2024. Through this position, he planned four successful Volunteer Abroad experiences in 2024: Ecuador, South Africa, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. Over 40 students in EGL were able to volunteer abroad through George’s leadership.

Outside of EGL, you may find George serving as a choreographer for the Arabesque Dance Troupe, which he has done for the past three years. Through this role, he prepares a four minute choreography and performs it at the annual Arab Xpressions show in February. George serves as an ENGR 110 Departmental Ambassador as well as an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Peer Facilitator.

George stated how this scholarship allowed him to focus on his studies and school commitment without the concern of accumulating debt. “I will be able to continue concentrating on the academic things I love doing, such as learning and teaching in the classrooms.”
