Opdyke Family Graduate Fellowship Recipients
2024-2025 EGL Opdyke Family Graduate Fellowship Award
We are pleased to announce that current EGL graduate student Namitha Elsa John is the recipient of the Opdyke Family Graduate Fellowship Award for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Originally from South Lyon, Michigan, Namitha Elsa John came to the University of Michigan in Fall 2020 to study Computer Science in Engineering. She was admitted to EGL in Winter 2022. Namitha is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Systems Engineering & Design.
Namitha really enjoyed the Topics in Leadership series, and served as the Topics in Leadership Instructional Aide for the 2023-2024 school year.
Outside of EGL, Namitha likes to keep herself busy by serving as a mentor in Sisters Rise Up, an organization that promotes women of color to pursue Computer Science. Namitha also completed research in cybersecurity through the Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP). You may have also run across Namitha who has worked at the Tech Shop on campus!
This scholarship has allowed Namitha the opportunity to pursue her Master’s degree immediately after completing her Bachelor’s degree. This also gives her the time to continue being involved in her many activities here at U-M.
Congratulations, Namitha!
