Global Education

International Minor for Engineers
Students in the EGL (Engineering Global Leadership) specialization of the Michigan Engineering Honors Program complete the International Minor for Engineers.

Cultural and Global Business Competency
Completing this minor helps EGL students develop a comprehensive understanding of other cultures and the global economy’s business and engineering implications. Key components of the minor include:

  • Achieving second-year proficiency in a foreign language
  • Completing international coursework to broaden educational perspectives
  • Gaining hands-on international experience through a 6-week study, work, research, or volunteer abroad trip

Planning Your International Experience
To maximize the benefits of the International Minor, students should aim to complete their international experience as early as possibly, ideally during the summer after their first year. Early planning is encouraged to explore various study abroad opportunities.

Advising and Resources
For more information about the International Minor for Engineers and to create a plan tailored to your goals, schedule a meeting with an advisor in the International Programs in Engineering office.

EGL Honor Society and Volunteer Abroad Program
In addition to the minor, students gain cultural education through the EGL Honor Society, which offers a Volunteer Abroad (VA) program. This annual program allows participants to immerse themselves in a new culture and location while volunteering during a 1-2 week experience every August before classes begin.
